john and mary had never met. they were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.

Thursday, December 30, 2004

it had been a twisted fate that had kept them apart. the two ran across the field towards each other, like a two trains. one leaving sloane sqaure at 5:43 travelling at 35 mph and the other leaving south kensington at 6:22 travelling at 50 mph.

Nothing unusual, nothing strange
Close to nothing at all
The same old scenario, the same old rain
And there's no explosions here
Then something unusual, something strange
Comes from nothing at all
I saw a spaceship fly by your window
Did you see it disappear?

Amie come sit on my wall
And read me the story of O
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me

Nothing unusual, nothing's changed
Just a little older that's all
You know when you've found it,
There's something I've learned
'Cause you feel it when they take it away
Something unusual, something strange
Comes from nothing at all
But I'm not a miracle and you're not a saint
Just another soldier on the road to nowhere

Amie come sit on my wall
And read me the story of O
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me

And Amie come sit on my wall
And read me the story of all
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me

Damien Rice Amie

First off, give him points for spelling amie without the "y". then you say, "bonus points for asking her to sit on your wall!" and i say, "of course, because it's probably not possible!". i'm nodding right now, you just can't see it.

apparently it's potential.
apparently it's parental.
yeah, i'm still figuring out what i mean by that.

the shins poster...

a finished version.

yes, i rather like that idea...
space mining.
gold teeth and a curse for this town were all in my mouth.
only, i don't know how they got out, dear.
turn me back into the pet that i was when we met. i was happier then with no mind-set.

and if you'd 'a took to me like a gull takes to the wind.
well, i'd 'a jumped from my tree
and i'd a danced like the king of the eyesores
and the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.
new slang when you notice the stripes, the dirt in your fries.
hope it's right when you die, old and bony.
dawn breaks like a bull through the hall,
never should have called
but my head's to the wall and i'm lonely.

and if you'd 'a took to me like a gull takes to the wind.
well, i'd 'a jumped from my tree
and i'd a danced like the king of the eyesores
and the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

god speed all the bakers at dawn may they all cut their thumbs,
and bleed into their buns 'till they melt away.

i'm looking in on the good life i might be doomed never to find.
without a trust or flaming fields am i too dumb to refine?
and if you'd 'a took to me like
well i'd a danced like the queen of the eyesores
and the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

-the shins new slang
my shadow's the only one that walks beside me
my shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'till then I walk alone

Day 3: Dear diary,
It’s me again. Today I went to the king with my 200 medals. He seemed surprised to see me. I brought the boy with me, his name is Kyle apparently. I still am going to marry the king’s daughter, but the king doesn’t seem too excited about it. There was a big ceremony and a feast for my bride-to-be and me. The king gave me a crossbow as a present but then he almost shot me with it, and he said it was an accident. I said “almost” because if it hadn’t been for Kyle, the arrow would have hit me! He saved me yesterday from a sniper too! He must be my guardian angel!

(excerpt from a book report done in grade 5)
Ayn sat quietly in his room, pondering the thought of it. To him it all seemed overwhelming. He remembered how June had told him, “You could have power. Power, and all you have to do is keep it a secret.” Keep it a secret – indeed he would have to if he became involved in any scheme like this. To use the Receiver of Memories like a child’s puppet…
The subway sped past my face, so my reflection would come and go before me. It slowed down rapidly, the force of it causing a wind to make me stumble. I regained my balance, placing a foot out to the side to support my weight, before walking forward and onto the subway. A small smile appeared on my face, noticing that there were few people on this train. My head turned in the direction of a pole before walking in its direction in silence. Leaning my back against the pole, the waiting began.
I stared out the window, the people outside faded away like snow in the wind. As the light tarried behind us, my gaze turned to those inside the train. A young woman sat quietly, listening to her CD player. Beside her sat a man, his eyes shut and his head leaning against the window. His eyes opened as a commotion could be heard from the back of the car. A few of the passengers’ voices had been raised and I turned my head and raised a brow.
As the commotion died down, so did the roar of the train. A high screeching noise filled my ears and I shifted my weight onto my left leg to keep my balance. The doors slid open, revealing a whole new world; or just a new station. Keeping my eyes focused ahead, I waited for the train to start again. Lines of people filed off the train, replaced by other strangers. I shut my eyes only for a moment, and when I opened them, the doors slid shut and the train roared once more. Turning back, I could see my reflection come and go with the train.

A throw rug, trashed underfoot
Wasted at the hands of your feet
A step towards disaster
You have put your foot down to contest
You have left your mark
Mud tracked in by your shoes
Arranged ever so carelessly
In the shape of a heart
You sweep your leg back
And scatter this mud-heart of mine

What was your first placement?
I don’t remember the name of the place, but it was a temporary shelter for the homeless.

In the city, I passed quietly through a faded residential area
Gazing down the uneven yet slippery roads before and behind us
Now I am content, allowing the lulling flow of the soft breeze to take me home.

Neon lights ahead, blurred by the fog, creating accidental shapes of light
Flickering signs ahead, made smooth by the haze
Yielded to the restaurant owner and the light switch.

As tires screech past, I see to my left, the pale, gray form of a church
Old, coarse, stones line the sides of the cathedral
Just across the road, was the round figure of a Muslim mosque.

Soon I could see the lights disappearing behind us
The dull illumination of streetlights was all that remained
As evidence of the towering buildings and glowing lamps.

Ahead lay thick rows of houses, all the same
Only separated by small afflictions to their appearances
A missing shingle, scratched paint.

Individuality is in the eye of the beholder
And the straight lines of houses, seemed to rob the beholder’s eye
Of any ideas of jealousy.

But all of this I leave behind, the rearview mirror a testament
To all the hopeless that lie behind me
Now, I am lonesome, as the dashed lines take me home.

Mirror a Testament
i'm going to tell a story.

today on the bus, our kindly driver gave us all chips and drinks as a christmas thing. gift... something you should know about my busride, after a bunch of kids get off there's about half an hour where no one gets off. during that half hour there are no more than seven people still on. this is when the real fun started. imagine the leftover 15+ pop cans in the front seat, now imagine a sharp turn.

yeah...

five cans of pepsi got punctured sending pepsi flying all over the front window, roof, a few seats, and my coat. three cans of 7-up decorated the already garland-furnished walls and stickered windows.

best christmas gift ever

from "the chrysalids"

quite quickly it became difficult always to remember how much one was supposed to know. it called for a lot of restraint to remain silent in the face of simple errors, to listen patiently to silly arguments based on misconceptions, to do a job in the customary way when one knew there was a better way...

made a short movie in class.
wanna see?
http://tdchristian.ca/classes/english/9/projects/English.mpg

if it doesn't work, just follow these instructions:
1. open quicktime
2. click "file"
3. click "open url in new player"
4. copy the url seen above into the corresponding box
5. allow the movie to load -- it's a pretty large file... give it time...
6. compliment its majesty
hand out the window, floating on air.
just a flip of the wrist, i'll be waving you goodbye.

so, crazy

don't you hate it when you read the last pages of the book first?

a plain morning -- dashboard confessional

It's yet to be determined
but the air is thick
and my hope is feeling worn
i'm missing home
and i'm glad you're not a part of this
there's parts of me that will be missed
and the phone is always dead to me
so I can't tell you
the tempurature is dropping
and it feels like
it's colder than it oughta be in march
and i've still got a day or two ahead of me
till i'll be heading home
into your arms, again
and the people here are asking after you
it doesn't make it easier
it doesn't make it easier to be away
I'd like to hire a plane
and see you in the morning
when the day is fresh,
i'm coming home again
coming home again
coming home again
when the day is fresh,
i'm coming home again
well, it's warmer where you're waiting
it feels more like july
there's pillows in their cases
and one of those is mine
and you wrote the words, "I love you"
and sprayed it with perfume
it's better than the fire is
to heat this lonely room
it's warmer where you're waiting
it feels more like july
it feels more like july
and it's yet to be determined
but the air is thick
and my hope is feeling worn
I'm missing home
and i'm glad you're not a part of this
